I suppose I'm finally done with this piece. I've been working on it for a long, long time (and with only a mouse). Here Fuagarth is playfully chasing Teillana, his mate. The two are Sielaxen, members of a fantasy species I created.

Thank you. :3 Every piece of jewelry they wear means something. Fuagarth (the green male) is the tribe's smith, so he makes the jewelry. It's all wire mesh of a special sort, light but strong. Teillana (the blue female) is the chief, of sorts (it's a one-ruler society, so though Fua is her mate, that doesn't make him the king), so she wears more jewelry than the average sielaxen as a sign of her power. That's what the band on her tail and the one around her neck are for (the claw on her neck-band is her father's, the last chief). The color of each bead is significant. Leg bands are symbols of marriage, so Tei's green bead on hers means Fuagarth, and Fua's blue bead means Teillana. Arm "X"s signify friendship, and show the colors of the sielaxen's four best friends. The number four is sacred to sielaxen, so they do everything in fours, including choosing four others to be very close to, and remaining aloof (but on friendly terms) with other sielaxen. It's a matter of safety-- sielaxen need to know they can trust their friends, because their tail-orbs (which hold a kind of magic that is related to their life-force, which means that if the orb breaks, the sielaxen dies, and also that the orbs, like mood rings, often show the mood of their owners [the blue/green on these two is just another touch, like the sky/grass, I added to highlight the unity of the two characters]) are very vulnerable, especially to other sielaxen, who know the secrets and weaknesses of the orbs. Fua's arm-band shows his job rank within the tribe. The three-stringed leg things mean something that I no longer remember-- parentage or family, probably. Tei's tail-beads and Fua's mane-beads refer to deeds they've done. Long strings of beads show a sielaxen of great honor, and the different colors mean different things.

That was probably way more information than you ever wanted to know, but I get excited when people ask about my sielaxen. :) They have a wonderfully complex society that I'd love to work on more someday, but I rarely have the time. This pic is one of the very few refined pieces I've done with them.
